Description

Do your students need help identifying, matching and writing upper and lower case letters? Then Ice Cream Letters is the resource for you! This ice cream-themed resource allows students to practise identifying, matching and writing upper and lower case letters in a fun and hands-on way. Print and cut the Ice Cream Letter resource, grab a play tray or some baking trays and add sprinkles…and you are ready to go! Using real sprinkles (or coloured rice) provides an additional element of fun and a sensory experience your students will love. This versatile resource is perfect for individual, partner or small group work. Play in the following ways:
  1. Flip and Trace: Start with a tray of sprinkles and letter cards (upper or lower case) face down around it. Students will flip a letter card over. They will trace that letter in the sprinkles. They can then trace the letter on their recording sheet.
  2. Match and Colour: Start with all upper and lower case letter cards mixed and facing up. Students will match the upper and lower case letter cards. Once matched, they can colour the upper and lower case letters on their recording sheet.
  3. Find and Colour: Start with a tray that has letter cards (upper or lower case) hidden beneath the sprinkles. Students will need to find a letter hidden in the sprinkles and push the sprinkles to reveal the whole letter. They can then colour that letter on their recording sheet.
Tracing letters is a purposeful fine motor activity that supports future literacy skills. Holding a pencil or crayon to trace and form letters requires a pincer grip, which helps to strengthen the small muscles in the fingers and hands. Following the shape of each letter with a finger or writing utensil requires focus, precision and control. Available in our basic fun font and all Australian state fonts.
