Icon Addition is an activity that allows students to practise their addition skills to 20 or 30 in a fun and interactive way.

In this activity, there are ten icons, with each icon awarded a value between 1 and 10. Students need to look at the addition equation, match the icon to its value and work out the sum of the icons.

There are two versions of this activity. One version has two addends, while the other version includes three addends.

Icon Addition can be used as a whole class write-the-room activity. It can also be used as a small group activity with the equations spread across a table.

To set up the activity, print the Icon Addition equations and place them around the room or spread across a table. Print a recording sheet for each student. This can be done on regular A4 paper for students to write directly on or placed in a write-and-wipe sleeve.
