Illustrating Meaning Worksheets STATE FONTS
Description
These worksheets will help your students understand how images contribute to the meaning of texts.
Students will read a sentence and use their imagination to create an illustration that provides meaning to the sentence. Before commencing this activity, we recommend having your students brainstorm what the sentences could mean. Their ideas could be realistic or fictional.
For example, if a student were to add meaning to the sentence: ‘I looked up and gasped.’, they could draw a picture of a cat stuck in a tree, a dragon flying in the sky, a spider on the wall or an alien in a UFO…the possibilities are endless!
This resource includes three versions, with nine sentences in each:
- Version 1: Students draw a picture to add meaning to the text.
- Version 2: Students draw a picture to add meaning to the text. They answer questions related to who, where and what.
- Version 3: Students draw a picture to add meaning to the text. They answer questions related to who, where and what. To conclude, they explain how their picture added meaning to the text.
