Inference or Prediction? Sorting Game
Description
Use this easy-print sorting game to reinforce identifying the difference between an inference and a prediction with your students.
Lay out the inference and prediction cards. Each student pulls a random narrative card and reads it aloud. They must then identify the matching inference and prediction and place them on their sorting mat.
You can mix this game up by using the inference and prediction cards face-down like a game of memory match, or by having students write sentences on each other’s mats for them to invent their own inferences and predictions.
This download contains:
- Sorting Mats: six full-colour options, six low-colour options and a black & white option
- 12 Narrative Cards
- 12 matching Inference Cards
- 12 matching Prediction Cards (4 using might/may/could, 4 using will, 4 using has/is).
We recommend printing on thick A4 cardstock for easy re-use. Try slipping the mats into a write-and-wipe sleeve so you can write on it with a whiteboard marker!
Prefer a written version that you can use for assessment or reporting evidence? Try the Inference or Prediction? Worksheets!
