Description
This Integers in Real Life Sorting Activity helps students develop their ability to distinguish between positive and negative integers by categorising real-world scenarios. Through hands-on sorting, students will strengthen their understanding of how integers represent increases and decreases in various contexts, such as finance, elevation, and movement.
How to Complete:
After placing the Positive Integers and Negative Integers heading cards in a visible location and distributing the scenario cards among students, complete the activity in one of the following ways:
- Small Groups: Each group receives a set of cards and works together to sort them under the correct heading.
- Turn-Taking Game: Each student draws a card, reads it aloud, and places it under the heading they believe is correct.
- Whole-Class Debate: Display the cards on the board or floor and discuss as a class before placing them.
- Individual or Pair Work: Students can cut, sort and paste the cards into their workbooks.
Extension Ideas:
- Create Your Own Cards: Have students write their own real-world integer scenarios to challenge their peers.
