Description

Let’s head to the Robot Factory! In this fun and interactive digital game, students will mix and match various robot body parts as they work their way through a series of engaging multiple-choice questions. Along the way, they’ll practise recognising and selecting phrases that express personal preferences and positive opinions. Each correct answer earns them a new robot part, helping them build a one-of-a-kind robot creation!

This game is a great way to help students understand how language can be used to express likes, opinions, and feelings. Through contextual examples, students decide what someone might say if they enjoy something - for example, “This cheese is delicious!” versus “This cheese is disgusting!” or “Cats are so adorable!” compared to “I'm not a fan of cats.” These kinds of choices develop students’ ability to identify tone, intention, and emotional expression in speech and writing.

Let’s Build – Language to Express Likes can be played as a whole-class activity on an interactive whiteboard, making it perfect for warm-ups or brain breaks, or students can scan the QR code to play independently on their own device. It’s ideal for literacy rotations, early finishers, and oral language practise.

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Recognise language used to express personal likes and preferences
  • ✅ Identify tone and meaning in context
  • ✅ Build oral language and emotional literacy skills
  • ✅ Improve comprehension of expressive sentence structures
  • ✅ Engage in independent or collaborative learning

How to Play:

  1. Students read each scenario and choose the sentence that best shows someone expressing a positive opinion or like.
  2. For every correct answer, they unlock a new robot part to add to their custom-built creation.
  3. Once they have completed their robot, students can watch their finished creation have a dance party to celebrate their success!
  4. Replay the game to build different robots and reinforce learning.

Ideas for Classroom Use:

  • 💡 Use it as a whole-class game on the interactive whiteboard to discuss how we express opinions politely and positively.
  • 💡 Encourage students to play independently by scanning the QR code - great for devices during literacy or oral language rotations.
  • 💡 Extend learning by having students write or role-play their own “likes” using expressive language.
  • 💡 Replay the game to reinforce emotional vocabulary and sentence structure.

Top Teacher Tips:

  • 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task.
  • 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six robot characters before the game begins.
  • 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play.

Let’s Build – Language to Express Likes helps students explore expressive language in a fun, hands-on way 0 while letting their creativity shine with every robot they build!
