My Love Jar Craft Activity

Description
Encourage students to express gratitude and appreciation with this editable craft activity! This low-prep task allows children to reflect on what they love about themselves or someone special. It would make an ideal gift for a loved one on special occasions, such as Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Grandparents’ Day.
How to Complete
To suit your classroom needs, this resource includes templates that are ready to print and use and separate pieces that students can cut and assemble. We have also included an editable option for you to add your own heading or prompt on the lid. Simply choose your preferred option and print on thick white or coloured cardstock.- Have students paint or colour in and decorate their templates.
- Once dry, they can cut out their jar and write a reason why they love themselves or someone special on each heart. Alternatively, students could write the names of people they love on each heart.
- If using the separate templates, students will need to cut out each heart, assemble and glue them onto the jar.
- The completed crafts can be left as is or backed onto coloured card. They would look wonderful on display in your classroom and would make a thoughtful gift for a loved one.
Additional Tips
- Use the blank love jar template and allow students to draw their own hearts.
- Use the editable templates to personalise the jars.
- Print multiple copies of the separate heart page on assorted coloured card for students to share.
- Add craft items to enhance the jars, such as sequins, glitter or stickers.
- Attach clear cellophane (cut to size) to the front of the completed jars.
- For younger students, provide sentence starters like ‘I love that I am…’ or ‘I love how you…’ to support writing.
- Enlarge the templates to A3 size to provide more writing space for younger students. Alternatively, allow them to draw pictures in the hearts.
Extension Ideas
- Classroom Display: Create an engaging classroom display featuring each student’s completed love jar craft.
- Writing Prompt: Encourage students to share and discuss what they wrote in their hearts to build a sense of community.
