Description

Create a heartfelt and hands-on card that helps students express love and appreciation for someone special in their lives. This resource includes card cover and message templates for students to craft a sweet ‘I Love You to Pieces’ card - perfect for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Valentine’s Day or Grandparents’ Day.

Check out this video below to see this resource in action.

How to Complete

Students can choose between two engaging and creative options: a simple torn tissue paper heart or a beautiful sun catcher-style card using laminated tissue paper or cellophane pieces.

In addition to the printable card cover and message templates you will need to provide:

  1. Scissors and glue
  2. Torn tissue paper or cellophane
  3. Laminating pouches, tape, hole punch, ribbon or string (sun catcher heart only)
  4. Optional: sequins and pom poms for extra decoration.

Option 1: Torn Paper Heart

  1. Provide students with a card cover, message template, tissue paper and glue.
  2. Students complete the message template and assemble the card.
  3. They then tear tissue paper into small pieces and carefully glue them on the card cover’s heart.

Option 2: Sun Catcher Heart

  1. Provide students with a card cover, message template, laminating pouch and cellophane or tissue paper.
  2. Once the heart is cut out, students fold and assemble the card.
  3. They then tear or cut cellophane or tissue paper into small pieces and arrange them inside an open laminating pouch. An adult can run the pouch through a laminator on a low heat setting.
  4. Using the original cut-out heart as a stencil, trace and cut out a laminated heart.
  5. To turn it into a sun catcher, punch a hole at the top, thread a piece of ribbon through, and tie a bow.
  6. Tape the sun catcher behind the heart-shaped opening in the card cover so it shows through when the card is closed.

Once complete, the cards are ready to be gifted to a loved one!

Additional Tips

  1. Add sequins or small pom poms to the card’s cover.
  2. The sun catcher heart requires the heart on the card cover to be cut out. We recommend an adult prepares this step ahead of time or assists students as needed.
  3. Keep the cut-out hearts for students to use as stencils when cutting the laminating pouches.
  4. The sun catchers can be kept inside the card or removed and hung in a sunny window.

This sweet craft encourages personal expression while creating a treasured keepsake for someone special.
