Description

Before beginning our experiment, we need to learn about mould and review the essential aspects of the scientific method.

This experiment allows the students to see which physical conditions(factors) will affect mould growth on bread! In this experiment, students will be placing bread in different conditions: moist, wet, cold, dark, and controlled.

Before allowing the students to commence the experiment, explain expectations. Students should complete each step of the investigation as each slide appears. Each group will need a copy of the Magnificent Mould: Ziplock template and the Magnificent Mould Experiment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When discussing safety, focus on this experiment and state that they cannot be opened once the bags are sealed because the mould makes people sick. At the completion of the experiment, these bread samples should be placed straight in a garbage bag and disposed of.

  1. Experiment instructions: outlines the materials and what is needed and ziplock template.
  2. Worksheets: the relevant worksheets for planning, observation, and results.
