This low-prep, editable activity includes teacher and student instructions, a materials list, step-by-step directions for making the foot scrub, printable jar labels, gift tags, and procedure writing templates.

In addition to the printable elements, you’ll just need a few simple ingredients and materials commonly found in classrooms or kitchens, including granulated sugar, coconut oil, food colouring, ribbon or string, small jars, mixing bowls, and spoons.

1. To create the mermaid foot scrub, students will mix sugar and coconut oil, then add a few drops of food colouring to create soft pastel shades.
2. They can scoop the scrub mixture into a small jar—either as a single colour or in layers for a magical, mermaid-inspired effect.
3. Students may choose to add a few drops of essential oil for a lovely scent (please check for allergies) and sprinkle sugar sprinkles on top for extra sparkle.
4. To finish, students can glue on a lid label and tie a gift tag around the jar with ribbon or string.
5. For a meaningful literacy link, have students complete the included procedure template to practise writing clear, step-by-step instructions based on their experience.
