Description

Celebrate the special people in your students’ lives with this heartfelt and creative Mirror, Mirror Mother’s Day Craft. This reflective portrait activity invites students to draw, paint, and decorate a mirror-themed frame while completing a meaningful sentence prompt. Designed with flexibility in mind, this resource encourages students to explore descriptive language and create a treasured keepsake for their mum or special caregiver.   How to Complete Choose from two template options to suit your class needs. Both options invite students to illustrate a portrait of their mother or caregiver, decorate the mirror frame, and complete the prompt: ‘When you look in the mirror, I want you to know you are...’.   Editable templates are included should you wish to adjust the text to suit your students.   Option 1: Pre-Assembled Templates
  1. Print the complete mirror template on white A4 or A3 cardstock.
  2. Students draw their portrait inside the mirror and complete the sentence prompt.
  3. They can add colour with paint, markers or pencils and decorate the frame with sequins, glitter, pom poms or other craft materials.
  Option 2: Build-a-Mirror Templates
  1. Provide each student with white or coloured A3 backing card and the individual template pieces.
  2. Students cut and assemble the heading strip and mirror on the backing card before illustrating their mum’s portrait. They can then complete writing prompt and glue it under the mirror.
  3. Students can add colour with paint, markers or pencils and decorate their artwork with our printable hearts, sequins, glitter, pom poms, or other craft materials.
  Additional Tips
  1. If using white A3 backing card, allow students to add colour with paint or edicol dye.
  2. Encourage students to take their time with their drawings to make them as personal and detailed as possible.
  3. Once their artworks are dry, students can outline their drawings with black marker pens to make their portraits pop.
  4. Provide extra craft materials like wool for hair, sequins for jewellery, or pipe cleaners for glasses to add dimension and texture to the portraits.
  5. Create a Mirror, Mirror gallery featuring all the finished projects before sending them home as gifts. Print one of our Mother’s Day banners to create a beautiful display.
This craft invites students to reflect on the special people in their lives while creating a thoughtful and personal Mother’s Day gift.   Be sure to check out our other Mother’s Day resources!
