Description

Looking for an activity for your students to practise solving addition and subtraction word problems using money? This activity lets your students use mathematical modelling to solve simple money problems. There are 36 different addition and subtraction money problems to solve. Students use a think board template as a scaffold to support them in solving each money problem.Students place the word problem card on the think board, draw a picture of the problem, model the problem using play money, manipulatives or another strategy, and then record the number sentence with the solution to the problem. This resource can be used to model problem-solving strategies to the whole class and can also be used individually or in small groups. We’ve provided six different think boards colours to choose from in full-colour, low-colour and black & white options. The think boards work well in a write-and-wipe board cover so your students can reuse the template to solve multiple problems. You might also enjoy Piggy Bank Subtraction!
