Description

Our Morphology Mission activity provides students with the opportunity to apply prefixes and suffixes to base words and simultaneously expand their vocabulary! The science of reading has proven that teaching morphology concepts, such as prefixes and suffixes, helps students to become more effective readers, especially when presented with challenging or complex texts.

To complete this task, students will need to locate base words from their set text. They will create word sums by building upon the base words with affixes they select from the Affix Bank. The Affix Bank table consists of a variety of prefixes and suffixes, ranging from simple to more complex options. The word detective points system will motivate your students to move beyond applying basic prefixes and suffixes only. Once the word sums are complete, students can add up the points and use the key at the bottom of the page to determine what level of word detective they are!
