Description

Create a hands-on and memorable Mother’s Day card with this sweet flower-themed resource. Students will create a delightful handprint flower card featuring the phrase ‘If mums were flowers…I’d pick you!’ for their mum or special caregiver.

How to Complete

The resource includes editable card cover and message templates to support diverse family structures.

We recommend printing the templates on A4 white or coloured cardstock and gluing onto a folded piece of A3 card. If you prefer to make smaller cards, simply reduce the print to A5. If using the separate stems, print on green cardstock.

In addition to the printable elements, please provide A3 coloured card and paint. Optional craft items, such as pom poms, sequins and glitter can be added to enhance the final product.

  1. Provide each student with a piece of A3 coloured card, a card cover and a message template.
  2. Students will fold the piece of card in half, colour in the flowers, stem and letters on the cover and complete their message template. Alternatively, students can cut and glue the printable stem.
  3. Glue the cover to the front of the folded card and the message to the inside.
  4. With the support of an adult, students paint their hand to create a colourful flower handprint. Use multiple colours for a vibrant effect.
  5. Students press their handprint onto the card cover so it sits on the stem. While the paint is still wet, they may sprinkle glitter on top.
  6. Once dry, students can enhance their flower with craft items, such as a pom pom centre or sequins on the ‘petals’.

Once complete, the cards are ready to be gifted to a loved one!

Additional Tips

  1. For a cleaner and layered look, have students press their painted hands onto a separate piece of card, allow it to dry, then cut it out and glue it onto the card cover.
  2. For a paint-free alternative, students can draw a flower and decorate it with craft materials like scrunched tissue paper.
  3. Set up a hand-painting station with paper plates, paintbrushes and different coloured paints. Ensure adult supervision during this part of the activity.

This beautiful handprint flower card makes a thoughtful keepsake and is a perfect addition to your Mother’s Day celebrations.
