Celebrate Mother’s Day with this engaging and creative craft! This editable activity allows students to create a unique portrait of their mother, mother figure or special caregiver, complete with a crown and a heartfelt message. It’s a fun, hands-on way for students to show appreciation and express why their mum is special.   How to Complete Choose from two template options to suit your class needs. Both options invite students to create a portrait of their mother or caregiver wearing a decorated crown with a meaningful message below.   Editable templates are included should you wish to adjust the text to suit your students.   Option 1: Pre-Assembled Templates

1. Provide each student with a pre-assembled ‘My Mum is a Queen’ template and a crown template.
2. Have them draw and paint a portrait of their mum or special person.
3. Once dry, they can complete the writing prompt.
4. Students can add decorations to enhance their mum’s portrait (such as wool for hair and sequins for jewellery).
5. Finally, they can decorate and glue the crown on her head.

  Option 2: Build-a-Portrait Templates

1. Provide each student with a piece of coloured backing card, a mum template, a crown template and a writing template. We recommend they complete the drawing and painting steps of the portrait before cutting it out.
2. Students can cut out all pieces and arrange them on the backing card (ensure they do not glue down the crown yet).
3. Have them complete the writing prompt and add decorations to enhance their mum’s portrait.
4. Finally, they can decorate and glue the crown on her head.

  Additional Tips

1. If using white backing card, allow students to add colour with paint or edicol dye.
2. Once dry, you could allow students to go over the lead pencil lines with a black marker pen to make their portraits pop.
3. Send the portraits home as a special gift or put them on display alongside one of our Mother’s Day banners.
