Celebrate Mother’s Day with this fun teapot-themed craft that allows students to create a heartfelt, interactive gift for their mothers or mother figures. This hands-on activity integrates creativity and writing as students assemble a beautiful teapot with a hidden message. With multiple template options, this craft can be personalised to suit different student of different ages and abilities.

In addition to the printable elements, you will need to provide glue, string and a hole punch. Craft items to decorate the teapots are optional and could include: pom poms, sequins, pipe cleaners or gem stickers. You might even like to add a real tea bag to the craft for an additional surprise!

How to Complete

1. Print your choice of teapot templates on white or coloured card. Ensure the dotted line on the teapot’s base is cut (as the surprise message will need to be slipped through it). We recommend that an adult does this with a craft knife prior to the lesson.
2. Students will cut out the teapot and the surprise message templates. On the message tab, they can write a heartfelt note or draw a picture. We recommend students slip the message through the slit on the base before gluing on the lid.
3. Finally, have students assemble the teapot by gluing the front teapot piece to the base. Ensure they leave a gap at the top for the surprise message tab to slide in and out. Secure the lid to the message tab, allowing it to be pulled up. Punch a hole in the tea bag tag and attach it to the teapot with string, making it look like a real tea bag.
4. Students can add craft items to decorate their completed teapots, such as sequins, stickers or pom poms. A pom pom on the lid’s handle would be a very cute addition!

Additional Tips

1. If using the separate teapot pieces, print each template on different coloured card for teapots that pop!
2. If printing on white paper, allow students to colour their teapot with crayons, markers, acrylic paints or watercolours.
3. Younger students may benefit from having the templates enlarged to A3.
