Celebrate Mother’s Day with this editable magazine writing template! This engaging writing activity encourages students to reflect upon all the things that make their mums (or mother figures) special. Your students’ mothers and mother figures are sure to enjoy reading a magazine that is all about them!

How to Complete:

This resource includes three sets of magazine templates, including a blank template, and writing templates with 18mm lines and 14mm lines. If using this activity with younger students, simply enlarge your chosen template to A3 for ample writing and drawing space. Each magazine page includes editable text, meaning you can change the headings and prompts or use an alternative word to ‘mum’ if required. Please note that this resource can be printed double sided (select flip on the short edge) or simply glued back to back.

1. Students begin by listing words or phrases all about their mums. As the text is editable, you can change the prompts to suit the needs of your students.
2. Then, have students use the words and phrases to support them in writing a paragraph about why they love their mums.
3. Finally, students can draw a picture of their mum on the cover or add a printed photograph.
4. Once completed, the magazine can be folded, ready to share!

Additional Tips:

1. Encourage students to reflect upon their mum’s qualities, special memories of their mum, the ways their mum helps them or activities their mum does with them.
2. Encourage students to use descriptive words and complete sentences.
3. Provide sentence starters for students who need extra support.
4. Students can enhance their magazines by adding craft items to the cover, such as heart or gem stickers and sequins.
5. Allow students to share their magazines with a small group or with their mums or mothers figures.
6. Display students’ competed magazines alongside or below one of our Mother’s Day banners!
