Description

Need a hands-on activity to help students understand how images add meaning to text? Then this eye-catching craft is the perfect resource for you.

To complete this task, students will add meaning to the sentence ‘My hair looks crazy!’ by giving themselves a crazy hairstyle using assorted craft materials or items from nature.

Either cut and glue a photo of each student (from the shoulders up) onto our backing template or print our ready-to-go template and have your students create the most outrageous hairstyles they can think of!

Short on time? Use our ready-to-go template and have students draw their facial features and crazy hairstyles.

Once all crafts are complete, use them to generate a discussion about how an image can add meaning to a text. Your students will soon realise that while all their artworks share the same sentence, none look the same!

Top Teacher Tips:

  1. We recommend enlarging the backing template to A3 and printing onto coloured cardstock.
  2. To add an additional layer of cuteness to this craft, take photos of your students with a surprised look on their faces, such as an open-mouthed gasp or with their eyes looking up.
  3. Use natural items to create crazy hairstyles, such as flowers, petals, leaves or sticks.

Extend students’ learning by having them describe their completed craft to a partner or use it as a descriptive writing prompt!
