Description
Celebrate Mother’s Day with this editable resource! This engaging and heartfelt activity is designed to encourage students to reflect on what makes their mum (or chosen mother figure) the best. This activity can be completed as a drawing task, or a descriptive or persuasive writing activity, making it suitable for students of various ages! The optional craft element makes this resource ideal for display in your classroom during Mother’s Day celebrations.
How to Complete:
This resource includes four sets of templates, including a blank template for drawing only, and writing templates with 24mm lines, 18mm lines and 14mm lines. Each resource includes editable text, meaning you can change the font or use an alternative word to ‘mum’ if required. In addition, we have included two heart topper options. Choose from a ready to print heart topper or individual pieces that can be printed on assorted coloured cardstock, cut and assembled by the students themselves.
- Support students in brainstorming why their mum or mother figure is the best!
- Students can either complete the descriptive writing template with a sentence prompt, or the persuasive writing template where they list 3 reasons why their mum is the best and elaborate on each reason below.
- Once students have completed the writing component of the task, they can draw a picture in the provided space or attach a printed photograph.
- If printed on white cardstock, allow students to add colour the heart topper before they attach it to the top of their completed work. You might like to embellish the toppers with scrunched tissue paper, pom poms or shiny sequins!
Additional Tips:
- Write a list of adjectives on the board for students to include in their writing.
- Encourage students to support their descriptions or persuasive reasons with specific examples.
- Allow students to share their writing in a small group, with the class or with their mums or mothers figures.
- Display students’ competed work alongside or below one of our Mother’s Day banners!
This activity is sure to be cherished by your students’ mothers and mother figures for years to come!
