My Name Train Craftivity: Back to School

Description
This My Name Train Craftivity is a fun way for your students to practise writing and ordering the letters in their name.
To make this craftivity, print all pages onto A4 cardstock. Students will write, cut and order the letter boxes to create their name on a strip of A3 cardstock. Once the letters of their name are correctly ordered and their placement has been checked by an adult, they can be glued on the A3 strip, along with their train engine, wheels and steam cloud heading.
This versatile resource includes an editable version of the letter boxes for those who would like to type each student's name or the alphabet's letters. Cut out the letters and have your students practise sorting them! In addition, we have included a colour version that is ready to be printed on A4 cardstock and a black and white version that can be coloured in by your students or printed onto coloured cardstock. If you wish to assess your students’ ability to identify, read, and order the letters in their names, we have provided an assessment checkbox.
Top Teacher Tips:
- Make a name train of your own that your students can refer to.
- Ensure the A3 cardstock is landscape before cutting it horizontally to create two long strips.
- Store each student’s letters in a snap lock bag so they can practise ordering the letters of their name throughout the week. You can then have them create their My Name Train Craftivity as an assessment!
- To ensure that students glue their name train on the correct part of the A3 strip of cardstock, add a train track to the bottom of the page. This could be as simple as a ruled line, or get your students involved by having them glue a thin strip of black paper or black pipe cleaners.
- Print a photograph of each student to glue on the window of the train so it appears as if they are driving their name train.
- Add cotton wool balls to create steam puffs coming out of the chimney on the engine towards the heading steam cloud.
