The My Place Value Slider is the perfect resource to build your students’ understanding of concepts related to the multiplicative relationship between the place value of digits.

Using the slider template, students will represent multiplying and dividing numbers by 10, 100 and 1000 in a visual and hands-on way. This template is ideal for students to use when completing tasks related to the powers of 10. We have included three versions of this handy resource to enable you to cater for the various abilities of the students in your class!

When multiplying:

• Once the My Place Value Slider and My Place Value Slider: Number Strips are assembled, students simply add their start number to the boxes, one digit per box.
• Depending on whether they are multiplying by 10, 100 or 1000, they slide the number strip one, two or three places to the left to discover the answer!
• Students may need to be reminded to add zeros as place holders after moving the strip to the left.

When dividing:

• Once the My Place Value Slider and My Place Value Slider: Number Strips are assembled, students simply add their start number to the boxes, one digit per box.
• Depending on whether they are dividing by 10, 100 or 1000, they slide the number strip one, two or three places to the right to discover the answer!
• Please note that Version 1 of the My Place Value Slider does not contain decimal places.
