Looking for a purposeful task to help your students learn about, appreciate and celebrate First Nations Australian culture during NAIDOC Week? Our Exploring Country worksheets have been designed for students to learn more about the First Nations Australian perspectives of places, animals and plants that are a part of the Country they live on. To complete the task, students will identify the name of the place they live and the Country it is on. They will then share information about the features of this place, including:

1. Native plants
2. Native animals
3. Waterways
4. Sacred sites
5. Where they live
6. Their favourite place

To suit the needs of your class, we have included three versions of this task:

• Students will identify name of place and Country and use drawings to record its features.
• Students will identify name of place and Country and use drawings and labels to record its features.
• Students will identify name of place and Country and use drawings and sentences to record its features.

Prior to completing this task, we recommend that you research the local area or facilitate a visit from a First Nations Australian who can share their narrative about their culture and Country.
