Nets of a Cube LET’S FARM
Description
Complete different tasks at the farm with every correct answer, from planting seeds to growing and collecting fruit, fixing tractors and mending fences. A farmer’s work is never done! With each correct response, students complete another job and bring the busy farm one step closer to success.
In this version, students examine a series of nets and decide whether each one can be folded to form a cube. By analysing face placement and orientation, students apply spatial reasoning and 3D shape knowledge in a meaningful, problem-solving context that links geometry with visual thinking.
Let’s Farm – Nets of a Cube is ideal for Year 4–6 students learning about 3D objects and surface area. It’s a great addition to your measurement or geometry unit and works perfectly in small group rotations or for independent play using the QR code.
Key Learning Outcomes:
- ✅ Identify nets that fold to form a cube
- ✅ Strengthen spatial reasoning and visualisation skills
- ✅ Understand the relationship between 2D nets and 3D objects
- ✅ Reinforce knowledge of cube properties and structure
- ✅ Engage in task-based gameplay that encourages critical thinking
How to Play:
- Students are shown a 2D net layout and must decide if it can be folded into a cube.
- Each correct answer completes part of a farm task like harvesting, repairing, or collecting.
- Some tasks take more than one answer to complete, maintaining engagement and focus.
- The game continues until all questions have been answered.
- At the end, students receive a wrap-up summary showing everything they achieved on the farm.
Ideas for Classroom Use:
- 💡 Use during geometry lessons to reinforce understanding of 3D shapes and nets
- 💡 Great for Year 4–6 students exploring spatial reasoning
- 💡 Pair with a hands-on task building cubes from cut-out nets
- 💡 Follow up with a student challenge to design their own cube net
Top Teacher Tips:
- 💛 Let students personalise their experience by choosing from six characters before the game begins
- 💛 Select the number of players or teams at the start of the game to suit individual, paired, or group play
- 💛 Send the QR code home for students to play as a homework or revision task
Let’s Farm – Nets of a Cube brings geometry to life on the farm, challenging students to apply visual reasoning and build their understanding of 3D structures through interactive play!
