Onomatopoeia is fun to teach and great to relate to narrative writing. These Think & Write worksheets are perfect to help your students understand how onomatopoeia fits into their narrative writing.

These worksheets come in 3 differentiated levels:

1. Identifying three onomatopoeia words and using them to write a narrative about a farm,
2. Identifying four onomatopoeia words and using them to write a narrative about superheroes, with one word appearing as the first word of the narrative,
3. Identifying four onomatopoeia words, brainstorming where they might be heard, and then writing a narrative with one word appearing as the first word of the narrative.

We’ve also provided lined paper templates to match each level (with 18mm, 17mm and 15mm line widths) and a checklist aligned to the Language sub-strand of the V9 Australian Curriculum, which you can use to have students self-assess their work or as a guide for reporting.
