Open Mic Afternoons are a great way to encourage fluency, expression and confidence when reading.
You might like to provide your students with a variety of passages or poems to choose from, or alternatively allow them to use their own written work. They then practise reading their passage with fluency, expression and good voice projection until they feel confident to read it in front of the class.
Once they feel confident, students place their name on the "Open Mic" poster.
This resource includes certificates that you can award at the end of the session for all of their hard work and practice.
Top Teacher Tip: Use a recording device so students can listen to their reading at the end and self-assess their work!
