Description

This is a great resource to introduce the concept of partitioning tens and progressing on to teen numbers. Partitioning numbers is a useful strategy for little learners as it makes working with larger numbers more manageable and allows students to recognise that a 2-digit number can be broken down into tens and ones and what that looks like visually. This resource includes 2 worksheets:
  • Partitioning Tens – Students use 2 different colours of blocks or similar manipulatives to build some combinations of ten. They can use the worksheet to show their findings and extend their knowledge by writing it in the expanded form below.
  • Partitioning Teens – Students move beyond partitioning ten using teen numbers. They cut and paste the teen numbers into the boxes provided and record the number by colouring the block towers and writing the expanded form underneath.
