Our Pen Your Own Paragraph activity is the perfect choice to help your students build an understanding of the structure and features of narrative texts. Students will read a narrative that has one part missing. It is their job to use the clues from the rest of the text to compose the missing part! Its versatile design means this activity can be used as a small group or independent task!

To complete this task for small groups, organise students into groups of 4 and distribute the Pen Your Own Paragraph worksheets. Please note that there are 4 versions of the narrative so that each student in the group can receive a version with a different part missing. Students read the parts of the story that are on their version and write the missing part on the included writing template. We recommend that you provide time for the students to share their parts of the story in order from the beginning to the end. Ask the group members to consider if their separate parts made sense when put together.

To complete this task as an independent activity, simply print and distribute one of the Pen Your Own Paragraph stories and the matching writing template! Alternatively, have all students write one part of the story; for example, everyone writes a new resolution!
