Description

You’ve reached the tomb, and it’s time to get the treasure! Every correct answer brings more loot—but will you play it safe and collect a small prize, or risk it all for a bigger reward? Be careful—one wrong answer, and your unbanked treasure is lost through the trapdoor!

In this version, students locate coloured pencils on a grid map by identifying their correct coordinates. They’ll read the grid using rows and columns to describe position accurately, reinforcing their understanding of spatial language, map reading, and basic coordinate systems in a high-stakes game format.

Let’s Steal – Pencil Grid Coordinates is ideal for Year 2–4 students building skills in location and direction. Use it during your mapping or measurement unit, in maths rotations, or as a fun independent task using the QR code—perfect for practising coordinates while adding a little risk and reward!

Key Learning Outcomes:

  • ✅ Use grid coordinates to describe the position of objects
  • ✅ Identify locations using rows and columns in a simple grid
  • ✅ Develop spatial awareness and basic mapping skills
  • ✅ Build accuracy and attention to detail with visual prompts
  • ✅ Engage in decision-based gameplay that reinforces coordinate concepts

How to Play:

  1. Students are shown a grid with coloured pencils positioned in different squares.
  2. They identify the grid coordinates that match the pencil’s location.
  3. Each correct answer earns treasure—but students must choose whether to bank it or risk it for a higher reward on the next question.
  4. Incorrect answers after a risk choice result in losing unbanked treasure.
  5. The player with the most banked treasure at the end of the game wins!
