This purposeful Christmas-themed activity has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin. These no-prep worksheets will allow you to check your students’ ability to make inferences based on context clues and prior knowledge.   To complete the task, students will record what present they think Pete receives at the end of the story. We have included multiple options to suit the needs of your class, including:

1. Drawing Pete’s present.
2. Drawing and describing Pete’s present on 24mm lines.
3. Drawing and describing Pete’s present on 18mm lines.

  This task is perfect for independent work, a small group task, scribing, evidence for assessment or for a relief folder! Encourage students to use information learned about Pete’s character in the story to base their present choice on. For example, Pete the Cat enjoys surfing, therefore he might have received a new surfboard or beach towel. He drives a red minibus, so perhaps he will receive a steering wheel cover. Alternatively, students may choose a cat-themed present, such as a mouse toy.   Early Years and Foundation students may benefit from having this resource enlarged to A3 to provide more space for drawing and writing.   Turn this activity into a fun art project by enlarging the drawing template to A3 and:

1. Placing it on an easel for your students to paint on.
2. Providing magazine and newspapers for students create a collage.
3. Providing craft materials, such as pom poms, pipe cleaners and buttons, for students to create a 3D image of Pete’s present.
