This purposeful Christmas-themed activity has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book Pete the Cat Saves Christmas by Eric Litwin. These no-prep worksheets will allow you to check your students’ ability to make inferences based on context clues and prior knowledge.   To complete the task, students will put themselves in the shoes of Pete the Cat prior to the events of the story. They will need to imagine that Pete completed a job application before he was chosen as Santa’s substitute. Students will complete Pete’s job application using the templates provided. We have included multiple options to suit the needs of your class:

1. Students will choose words to describe Pete, answer important questions, describe and draw his minibus and write a fun fact. Please note that this page can either be completed in isolation or in addition to the next page.
2. Students will write a persuasive paragraph outlining why they (Pete) should be chosen as Santa’s substitute. They will then draw a picture showing Pete’s love of Christmas. Please note that this page can either be completed in isolation or in addition to the previous page.
3. Students can use this template as additional writing space.
4. Students can use this template as additional drawing space.

  This task is perfect for independent work, a small group task, scribing, evidence for assessment or for a relief folder! It would be ideal as a persuasive writing piece!
