Description

Support your Year 1 students in their Physical Sciences unit of work with the assessment task, Push and Pull Investigation.

 

This activity will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of how push and pull forces can impact an object's movement.

 

In groups, students will predict and then conduct an investigation to determine how far an object will travel when force is applied to it, using different objects to apply the force. The objects that will have the force applied to them are a ping pong ball, a tennis ball and a soccer ball. The objects that will make contact with the ball and apply the force are a bat, a skipping rope and a person’s hand. The students need to try and make the balls travel as far as possible and measure the distance using an informal measurement of choice.

 

Once the investigation has been completed, students create pictographs of their results and draw and write their conclusions.
