Physical Sciences Year 2 Assessment: Making Magnificent Music

Support your Year 2 students in their Physical Sciences: Investigating Sound unit of work with this hands-on and engaging assessment task.
Created to coincide with the Year 2 Physical Sciences Australian Curriculum, this investigation will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of concepts related to sound, in particular, investigating how sound can be made and changed through different actions and how people hear (AC9S2U02).
Students will identify what music is and make their own sound patterns with an instrument. They will explain how the instrument makes sound, how the sound can be changed and, in words and pictures, demonstrate how sound travels from the source to a person’s ear so they can hear it.
This resource includes the templates for students to record their sound pattern, write responses to key questions and draw a diagram to show how sound travels.
