Description
This purposeful activity has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey. These no-prep comprehension worksheets will allow you to check your students’ ability to pose meaningful questions based on their understanding of the text.
After reading the text, students will pose questions they still have about the characters, settings and events. These questions can be general or directed towards the main character. We have included multiple options to suit the needs of your class, including:
- Asking the main character a question and using text clues and prior knowledge to predict their answer.
- Posing a series of questions they have about the text, scaffolded by the prompts: who, where, why, what and why.
- Posing a series of questions. These questions have no prompts, therefore could include other question openers, such as ‘How…?’ or ‘Which…?’
- Posing a series of questions of their choice. In addition, students will use text clues and prior knowledge to answer the questions based on what the character might say.
This task is perfect for independent work, a small group task, scribing, evidence for assessment or for a relief folder!
Early Years and Foundation students may benefit from having this resource enlarged to A3 to provide more space for drawing and writing.
