This purposeful game has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book Pig the Pug by Aaron Blabey. It is a fun way for your students to explore rhyme, a tool that is used by Aaron Blabey to convey the story of Pig the Pug.

With a partner, students take turns to roll a die. Using the number key, they will find an image of an item that rhymes with the word listed. Students may require an adult helper to read the number key. Before covering the image, students will need to say the rhyming word aloud. For example, if Olive rolled a 2, she would need to find a word that rhymes with pig, such as ‘wig’. She her rhyming word aloud and covers the image on her board. Students lose a turn if all the images that rhyme with the word are covered. At the end of the playing time, the winner is the player with the most images covered.
