Pirate Gems Attack is the perfect game to play with your class when teaching the concept of object patterns!

In this interactive PowerPoint, your students will work in 4 teams to correctly answer pattern problems. Each team is represented by a pirate protecting a collection of gems. The aim is for each team to protect their gems from being attacked by the opposing teams.

When a problem is displayed, the first team to answer it correctly has the power to ‘attack’ an opposing team’s gems. If a team has all their gems attacked, they are eliminated from the game. The game continues until 3 of the 4 teams have been eliminated. The last team left standing is the winner! We recommend having whiteboards handy for your students to determine the answers to the problems.

The following types of problems are featured throughout the game:

1. Draw or build the next part of the pattern.
2. What is the rule for continuing this pattern?
3. Draw the missing shape to complete the pattern.
