Popping Popcorn is a tasty and engaging hands-on lesson that will allow students to witness physical manipulations firsthand. Students will have the opportunity to handle popping corn kernels before and after the application of heat, as well as enjoying the delicious treat. With full tummies, students will then complete the Popping Popcorn Booklet.

The Popping Popcorn Booklet provides a fun way for students to demonstrate their ability to make connections between the real-life experience of making popcorn and physically manipulating materials. Using their knowledge from previous lessons, students will make observations, predictions and offer reasons for why things look and behave in particular ways.

The Popping Popcorn Booklet is designed to be just that, a booklet. Therefore, it must be printed double-sided, with the flip on the short-edge option selected. Once students have completed all components of the booklet, it can be folded (on the solid lines) to create an informative and fun way for students to share their learnings. If using with younger students, we recommend enlarging to the template to A3 size so that there is additional writing space available.

The resource also includes a Popping Popcorn Instruction Handout which can be used to support the lesson either displayed digitally or printed. This document is included in both colour and black and white options. Suggested answers are also included for the Popping Popcorn Booklet to make planning and correction a breeze.
