Reading Strategies Alternative Spellings for /igh/ Worksheets
Description
This resource allows students to practise applying their phonic, semantic and grammatical knowledge when reading texts.
The worksheets feature information reports that are rich with words containing the /igh/ phoneme. The words are spelt in multiple ways, such as ‘y’ and ‘i-e’. Your students are asked to identify the words and list the alternative spellings. Additional questions are provided to access their semantic and grammatical knowledge, highlighting these helpful reading strategies.
Three versions of the worksheet are provided. The texts increase in complexity throughout. You could use them to differentiate learning or as a progression. When you have decided which versions to give to which students, you can print them out and start the activity. Handy answer sheets are also provided.
