Description
The Renaming Decimals Flip Cards: Tenths & Hundredths Activity is a hands-on, interactive task designed to help students practise renaming decimals in different forms—tenths and hundredths. By working in pairs or small groups, students will develop their understanding of decimal place value, improve their ability to express decimals equivalently, and engage in collaborative learning.
How to Complete:
- Students will take turns to pick a card, reads the decimal aloud, and rename it in two different forms. For example, 0.3 is 3 tenths or 30 hundredths.
- If they are correct, they can keep the card. If incorrect, the card goes back into the pile.
- Students continue drawing cards until all have been correctly renamed and collected.
Additional Tips:
- Encourage students to use precise mathematical language when renaming decimals.
- For students who need extra support, review the place value chart beforehand, focusing on the tenths and hundredths columns.
- Use the completed flip cards as a reference tool during future lessons on decimal place value and equivalence.
Extension Ideas:
