Room on the Broom: Flip & Match is a hands-on and engaging game that is designed to be played after a whole class reading of Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. Students will be challenged to use their comprehension skills to correctly determine characters and important items from the text. Using bold clipart, Room on the Broom: Flip & Match will undoubtedly attract the attention of your students as they demonstrate their understanding of the text. Specifically, students will need to recall the characters in the text and the items that the witch loses and/or uses throughout. Aside from the first use which will require the game cards to be cut out before playing, Room on the Broom: Flip & Match is a low-prep activity that can simply be pulled out and played. To play, each student will need a game board. The game cards should be placed in a pile in the middle of the playing space. Students will take turns selecting a card from the pile. They will determine whether the image on the card is a character or object from the story. If it is, they will place that card on a vacant space on their board. If it is not, or if they already have that character or object, they return that card to the pile and lose a turn.
