Room on the Broom: Who Am I?
Description
Room on the Broom: Who Am I is a fun and engaging task designed to be completed after a whole class reading of Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson.
Students will be challenged to write a description of a character or object from the story before covering the image with a flap. Students will need to consider the language used in the text, the interactions of the character and/or items that the character may encounter.
Using bold clipart, students will be motivated to write captivating descriptions and colour their hidden picture beautifully. In addition to a broom and cauldron, all characters from the text are included, with blank worksheets included if you would prefer your students draw the character or object that they choose to describe.
Once students have completed the activity, it can be used to create a conversational display, encouraging students to read, discuss and guess which character or object is under the flap based on the written descriptions of their peers. This activity is certainly an all-rounder, providing students with the opportunity to practise their writing, comprehension and oral language skills.
Room on the Broom: Who Am I is a low-preparation activity, simply print it and teach it. Versatile in its application, this activity can be used as whole class activity, during a literacy rotation, evidence for assessment or pop it into a relief folder for a rainy day.
