Our Secret Settings activity is the perfect choice to help your students build an understanding of how to apply vivid, detailed and specific language when describing the setting in a narrative text.

Students will work in pairs and take turns describing an image of their secret setting for their partner to draw. It is important to remind students that they cannot show their Secret Settings image to their partner until the task is complete!

To complete the task, organise students into pairs and give each student their own Secret Settings worksheet and image. Ensure that the student receives a different image to their partner! The students take turns to use describing words to explain, in detail, what their image looks like. For example, Student 1 will describe their image to Student 2, who draws it from their imagination. Once finished, the students compare the drawing to the image to see how well it was described.
