Sentence Builder Task Cards is a fun and engaging activity that will challenge your students to write sentences using a series of prompts. The task cards are categorised into Who? What? Where? and When? to highlight the importance of including details in sentences.

Students will randomly select a card from each category (differentiated by colour) and use the information on the cards to write a sentence. These sentences can be recorded using the included recording sheet or they can be written in student workbooks.

Whether your students are at the beginning of their sentence writing journey or beginning to demonstrate confidence and flair, this activity can easily be tailored to individual student needs or different aged cohorts. For those just beginning, starting with two cards will allow them a gentle introduction to sentence writing, while still experiencing the fun of random selection. These beginning students could use the Who? and What? cards, gradually increasing to include Where? and When? For students exhibiting confidence with the task, they could be asked to write three different sentences using the same combination of cards, demonstrating the importance and impact of word order.

Sentence Builder Task Cards is a low-preparation activity, that will be on high-rotation in your classroom. Use the task cards during a lesson, as part of a small group rotation or put them out for early finishers.
