Shady Shadows: Earth & Space Sciences Investigation

Are your students learning about shadows that are created by the Sun? Our Shady Shadows Investigation is just what you need! This investigation will provide students with the opportunity to observe how shadows change throughout the day by tracking their length and direction.
Students will write an inquiry question to guide their investigation and make a prediction. They will observe the shadow of a small object throughout the day. Students will record their results on one of the included table templates and document their conclusions based on their findings.
In addition to the templates provided, each student will need a small object that will create a shadow, such as a small toy or a tower of linking cubes. To measure the shadows, we recommend providing base ten cubes or another suitable unit of measure.
