This resource provides students with the opportunity to apply their understanding of how comparison models and partitioned arrays can assist in solving multiplication problems. They will love the challenge of building their ice cream scoop by scoop!

To complete each ice cream, the students must match an answer cone with its related:

• number sentence scoop
• word problem scoop
• partitioned array scoop
• comparison bar model scoop

This task is easily modified for students with a range of abilities and can be completed independently or in small groups. For example, some students will be able to match all 4 scoops with the answer cone, while others may only be required to match the partitioned array scoop with the number sentence scoop.

It is recommended that students have access to hands-on materials, such as counters, and paper or a whiteboard for working out.

Colour and black-and-white versions of this resource have been included. We recommend printing your desired version onto thick cardstock before cutting out and distributing to your students. To save on coloured ink, simply print the black-and-white version on different coloured cardstock.
