Practise sorting and counting shapes using this hands-on activity.
Students collect a handful of shapes and get started sorting them into groups before counting how many of each shape they have. You can use classroom manipulatives, objects around the room or in an outdoor area. Alternatively, print out a few sets of our
2D Shape Sorting Cards and divide them up randomly between small groups!
Use this as an independent activity or in pairs/small groups to help your students learn how to sort and count their data. You could even get your students to record tally marks in the sorting circles once they have sorted their physical shapes to add complexity to your lesson.
Print this sheet in A4 colour for students working in pairs or independently, or for use in write and wipe sleeves. If working in small groups, you may like to print it A3 so that your students can sort more shapes.
