Do your students need help with identifying and subitising numbers? Subitising Cupcakes is the resource for you!

These play dough mats provide students with the opportunity to practise identifying and subitising numbers 1 to 5 in a fun and hands-on way. In addition, they will develop fine motor skills, specifically their hand and finger strength and coordination. Pinching, rolling and shaping the small balls of play dough 'sprinkles' will help to strengthen the small muscles in the hands and fingers whilst simultaneously developing bilateral coordination, which is essential for daily tasks, such as using tools, tying shoelaces or buttoning shirts.

Print and cut the number cards, print copies of the cupcake mats and the recording sheets, grab some play dough… and you are ready to go!

We recommend placing the mats into write and wipe sleeves and printing the cards on thick card for durability. Using play dough provides an additional element of fun as well as a sensory and fine motor experience your students are sure to love. Alternatively, students can use buttons or counters to represent their numbers.
