Description

This task card activity will challenge your students in identifying the number of syllables through the process of basic elimination or “Odd-one-out.”   Each card contains 4 different pictures – three of which have the same number of syllables and one which is not. The objective of the activity is for the students to cross out the picture that has the incorrect number of syllables.   In order to make this activity more engaging, have your students pretend to be secret agents out on a mission to solve a case. In order to complete the mission, they will first have to solve the task cards and identify which picture does not belong to the group (the “secret” file). Make sure to have them simply “explain” their answer and why they think that picture is the odd one out – like a secret agent! This will encourage them to defend their answer while practicing their social and communication skills.
