Text Purpose Sort is a hands-on activity that will challenge students to read excerpts from different texts and sort them into the correct categories. Students will need to consider excerpts from imaginative, informative and persuasive texts.

To complete Text Purpose Sort, students will need to cut, sort and paste the excerpts, using their understanding of text types along with their fine motor skills. Students will need to be able to independently read the excerpts to complete this task, if attempting Text Purpose Sort with younger students, completing it as part of a teacher-guided rotation is recommended.

Text Purpose Sort requires minimal preparation, simply print and teach. With three sets of text cards included, Text Purpose Sort can be used across a series of lessons as students gain familiarity with the layout.
