Are your students learning about the phases of the Moon and how they are affected by the Earth and Moon’s orbits? You need our movable Earth, Sun and Moon diagram!

This purposeful and engaging task will provide students with the opportunity to visualise and demonstrate how the Moon and Earth’s orbits affect each phase of the Moon. Students will colour and cut out the Sun, Moon and Earth pieces before joining them together with paper strips and split pins. Once assembled, students will be able to demonstrate the Moon orbiting the Earth as the Earth orbits the Sun! This resource includes:

1. Detailed instructions (in colour and black and white)
2. Earth, Sun and Moon pieces
3. Long and short paper strips.

Each student will also need three split pins to assemble the movable diagram. Depending on your printing preferences, you can choose from the Earth, Sun and Moon pieces and the paper strips on separate pages or all pieces on the one page for students to colour in and cut out.

Top Teacher Tips:

1. Students may benefit from the pieces being enlarged to A3.
2. For a pop of colour, print the separate piece pages onto coloured cardstock.
