This purposeful activity has been designed to accompany a whole class reading of the picture book The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. Students will be challenged to creatively design an animal’s home, building on their knowledge of the story’s setting.
Students will be required to consider how their design will cater for an animal that lives in the deep dark wood. We recommend allowing students to have access to the illustrations from the story as they complete the task.
To suit the needs of your class, we have included multiple templates, with an option for writing a setting description on 24mm or 18mm lines.
Younger students may benefit from having this resource enlarged to A3 to provide ample space for drawing and writing.
